RSC Architects was commissioned by the New Jersey Schools Development Authority to serve as their Bridging Design Architect for the generation of Design-Build documents in order to provide additions and alterations at two existing City of Millville school facilities.
This project originally involved the creation of plans to provide additions and alterations in order to convert the Lakeside Middle School into a high school, along with additions and alterations to convert the Millville High School into a middle school. RSC presented various design concepts, compared a variety of evaluation criteria, and held regular meetings with the project’s representatives in order to determine the best approach for the District.
The final design concept proposed the construction of 230,000 s.f. of various building additions, as well as 58,000 s.f. of interior alterations to the Millville High School to enlarge the facility and allow it to remain as a high school. As a result, no additions or improvements were proposed at the Lakeside Middle School, allowing it to remain operational without any disruptions. The high school now accommodates 2,026 students, with a maximum capacity of 2,384 students.
The addition work involved a new cafeteria, a gymnasium, a 1,200-seat auditorium, fourteen science laboratories, four art laboratories, two culinary laboratories, and thirty-six classrooms.
