The County College of Morris’ new, 80,000 s.f. Center for Health Professions will offer new experiential programs, certifications, training, and learning spaces for disciplines that have not been previously provided on campus, including dental, nursing, surgical technology, physical therapy, and sonography programs.
The new, three-story Center will be located within an existing open area between Henderson Hall, Sheffield Hall, and Parking Lot 4, and will house educational spaces for ten separate healthcare-focused specialties, as well as traditional learning environments, including classrooms and lecture halls. Physical and occupational therapy programs, radiography programs, respiratory therapy programs, paramedics programs, and anatomy and skills/simulator laboratories will also be incorporated.
The Center’s design concept incorporates two intersecting building wings with a common core that weaves together the site’s topography, the building’s common areas, exterior amenities, and collaboration spaces for each program of study. The site’s placement and its conditions also allow for split building entries and a plaza with seating.
Other specific elements that relate to RSC’s planning of this Center involve employing a flexible approach to accommodating evolving healthcare techniques and educational technologies, including the requirements for healthcare training within simulated spaces, cadaver laboratories, healthcare simulators, and alternative learning options. Sustainable materials will also be utilized in order to promote the health and well-being of the facility’s occupants and users.
This new Center fulfills high-priority elements of the College’s master plan, which relate to campus image, academic classroom improvements, and the need for instructional classrooms and custom spaces for health professions.
