The RSC Architects design team was faced with the challenge of incorporating this large aquatic facility into a residential neighborhood. In order to achieve this, the complex was designed using multiple elements of varied heights in order to maintain a scale that was appropriate to the surrounding area.
The City also requested an outdoor swimming option for the summer months. For an open-air feel, RSC’s creative architectural design solution included a translucent retractable roof that allows natural light and air to fill the complex. The regulation-sized heated pool is also used by the Union City Public Schools for physical education classes, as well as high school swim team practices and competitions. An interactive children’s play space features a shallow-depth area with an umbrella water cascade.
