RSC Architects designed a dynamic, new 20,000 s.f. gymnasium building that meets the expanding curriculum requirements of the Bergen County Technical School District’s Paramus Campus. This addition includes regulation-sized basketball and volleyball courts, with bleachers and an auxiliary gymnasium for aerobics classes and cardio exercise equipment. Shower and locker room facilities, coaches’ offices, storage areas, and public toilet rooms are also provided.
The addition connects to the existing building through a link to an existing central corridor. The addition also created a courtyard, which was creatively landscaped for its use as an outdoor instructional space.
The existing gymnasium was converted into an extended seating area for the cafeteria. The upgrades to the cafeteria included a cooking line, a serving line, and a concessions area. The existing kitchen classroom has also been upgraded to meet current curriculum requirements, and it serves as a new full-service kitchen, eliminating the need for outside food services.
