Working with Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC), this state-of-the-art Central Utility Plant (CUP) is a critical piece of infrastructure that centralizes vital operations and improves overall campus efficiency.

This 44,000 s.f. Central Utility Plant (CUP) was designed to consolidate HUMC’s existing infrastructure, which was located throughout the campus. On track to achieve USGBC’s new PEER (Performance Excellence Electricity Renewal) certification, the CUP’s hybrid electric and steam-powered 12,000-ton chiller plant can support 50% of the site’s peak cooling load during an emergency, with emergency electrical cooling connections that can support more than 90% of peak cooling. Also outfitted with a 180,000-pound-per-hour boiler plant and a 7,500-kilowatt diesel generator plant, this vital facility provides enhanced capacity, improves energy efficiency, and promotes environmental stewardship.

RSC Architects is the Architect-of-Record and Project Lead for this project and partnered with EYP for exterior design services.
