Historic Preservation Through Modernizations
Ramapo College’s use of the historic Birch Mansion was becoming increasingly difficult, as spaces became less functional and couldn’t support the contemporary needs of their college students. RSC’s interior renovations have transformed this estate into an efficient and updated space for essential college functions.
Built in 1889 and purchased by Stephen Birch in the 1920s, the Birch Estate was chosen as the prime location for Ramapo College in 1972. The Birch Mansion became the administration building for the school, housing admissions, advisers, the office of the provost, and the President, to name a few.
RSC designed the interior renovations to the 2,000 s.f. office suite of the Office of the President, which involved finish renovations to all of the offices and reception areas, as well as the ornate main center stairway; office reconfigurations; bathroom renovations; and electrical wiring, plumbing, piping, lighting, and window upgrades.
